- Howard C. Stevens, 85, of 9 The Meadows, and Kings Point, Winter Haven, Fla., died Wednesday at St. Francis's Hospital in Hartford. He was the owner and president of Stevens Millwork Co. of Somers. He worked previously at White Westinghouse Corp. During World War II, he was a foreman at the Springfield Armory, and later worked for the Federal Reconstruction Finance Corporation. While living in Florida in 1967-69, he owner Bressler's 33 Flavors Ice Cream Store. Born in Suffield, he lived in Somers before moving here. He was a charter member and treasurer of the Somers Lions Club, first president and charter member of the Somers Chamber of Commerce, first president of the Somers Little League, an original driver and charter member of the Somers Fire Dept. Ambulance Service, and a past treasurer of the Salvation Army Chapter there. He leaves his wife, the former Lillian Rinaldi; a daughter, Diane Stevens of Enfield; a brother, Everett of Winter Garden, Fla., and a sister, Helen Brennan of East Longmeadow, Mass. The funeral will be Friday morning in Browne Memorial Funeral Chapels and St. Martha's Church, with burial in Somers Center Cemetery at the convenience of the family. Calling hours will be this afternoon and evening.
