| Helen Thurston THURSTON, HELEN A. (LEWIS) age 90, formerly of Wethersfield Commons in Warwick was taken to a better place on Monday, March 25, 2013, after a happy and purposeful life. Born in Newport, RI she was the wife of the late Brenton P. Thurston and the daughter of the late Harold and Lena A. (Collins) Lewis. She was a graduate of St. Mary's School; St. Joseph's High School, in the last graduating class in 1940 and the Newport Secretarial School in 1941. Upon graduation she worked as a secretary for Mayor Herbert S. McCauley and during WWII she worked at the Newport Naval Torpedo Station. A Warwick resident since 1952 she was a communicant of St. William Church and also St. Francis of Assisi Church (1985-2008) both in Warwick. She was a member of the Garfield Park Woman's Club, a past President of the Wethersfield Commons Social Committee, Chairman of the Wethersfield Commons Bingo committee and an active member of Project Linus Hearts and Hands of Rhode Island, for whom she made quilts that were donated to hospitalized children in R.I. She is survived by her four children; Carolyn Penick and her husband Stephen, of Bradenton, FL; Nancy Roy and her husband Geoffrey of Warwick, RI; Lorraine Capporaletti of North Providence, RI and Brenton P. Thurston and his wife Barbara of Providence, RI; along with 10 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. She was also the sister of Mrs. Corrine Southard of Hernando, FL and the late Margaret Greene. Relatives and friends are invited to attend a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, April 1st, at 11AM in St. Francis of Assisi Church, 610 Jefferson Boulevard, Warwick, RI. Calling hours are respectively omitted and burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital at 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN. 38105. |
