- Joseph S. Banning III, 72, of Edgerton St., East Hampton. Beloved husband of Barbara (Ackley) Banning, passed away Monday (March 4, 2002) at Middlesex Hospital, Middletown after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Cushman, MA., Sept. 30,1929, son of the late Joseph B. and Marguerite (Jones) Banning, and had lived in East Hampton all his life. Before his retirement he was a developer and building contractor in East Hampton and surrounding towns for many years. Joe was a member of St. Patrick Church, East Hampton, a life member and past commander of Fowler-Dix-Park Post #5095, VFW, East Hampton, served on the East Hampton Board of Sewer Commissioners, and was formerly active with the East Hampton Little League. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean war, and received a Korean Service Medal and United Nations Service medal. Besides his wife he is survived by his loving family, Joseph B. Banning and his wife, Jill of Ashford, Stephen M. Banning of East Hampton, Richard H. Banning and his wife, Patricia of East Hampton, Dennis G. Banning of East Hampton, Laura L. Landry and her husband, Ronald of East Hampton, Karen A. Ennen and her husband, Robert of East Hampton; 14 grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews. Funeral services will be held on Friday, 11 a.m. with a Funeral Liturgy at St. Patrick Church, 47 West High St., (RT 66), East Hampton. Rev. Charles R. LeBlanc will be the Celebrant and burial will follow with military honors in St. Patrick Cemetery. Relatives and friends are invited to call at the Spencer Funeral Home, 112 Main St., East Hampton, Thursday 5-8 p.m. Those who wish may send memorial contributions to St. Patrick Church Repair Fund or Padre Pio Foundation of America Inc.
