| Brandon Mental Health Centre The original building, built in 1892, with addition in 1903, was destroyed by fire in 1910. The replacement building was built in 1912.
The institution was renamed several times over the years: Brandon Asylum (1891), Brandon Insane Hospital (1912), Brandon Hospital for Mental Diseases (1919), Brandon Mental Health Centre (1972).
The facility closed in 1999. |

- John Currie was born to the parents of Hugh Currie and Elizabeth Currie (nee Muir). In the 1890's John settled in Manitoba. On 15 Mar 1899 he married Charlotte Elizabeth Swalwell. While living in Manitoba they had children, William Elwood, Lloyd, Allan, Minto and Viola. The family moved to British Columbia and while living there they had children Harold Chester, Alma and Roy. John and Elizabeth returned to Manitoba.
During the time they were living in BC John suffered a work related head injury. Resulting in his living his final years at the Brandon Mental Health Centre in Brandon. He is buried in the lower 3 behind the (former) hospital.
