  • Notes
    • Marriage certificate states her father as William Hart (deceased) seaman merchant service

Owen Davies (her son) b. 1 May 1886. William Davies (Owen’s father) listed as fireman on steamer
Owen’s birth certificate states mother’s name as Caroline Hirst containing “the mark of Caroline Davies” (an X, probably)

Marriage registration in the 4th qtr 1867 at Stockton reg district of a Caroline AYERST (mother) to either a James LITHGOW or a Marshall SMITH plus a death registration in the 3rd qtr 1868 at Stockton reg district of a Caroline SMITH (mother) born c1823. Perhaps Caroline's stepfather did not want the responsiblity of her upbringing and she was placed in a convent home when she was very young and was not completely sure of her real father's christian name but knew he was a mariner.
