| Jeanne E. Walton JEANNE E. WALTON
HUNTINGTON - Jeanne E. Walton, 83, a longtime resident of Huntington, died peacefully, surrounded by loving family and friends on Tuesday, May 8, 2012, in Birchwood Terrace Healthcare in Burlington.
Jeanne was born in Arlington, Mass., on April 19, 1929, the daughter of John Charles and Marion (Murray) Bell. She was a graduate of Arlington High School, received her L.P.N. from the Jean Mance School of Nursing, and received her Registered Nursing Degree from the University of Vermont. Jeanne was married on Oct. 13, 1955, to George Alfred Walton, who predeceased her on Jan. 19, 2009.
She was employed for 15 years with the Visiting Nurse Association, and for many years with the Vermont State Hospital, the State of Vermont, where she inspected nursing homes, and for the U.S. Federal Building. Her favorite occupation and greatest joy was as a mid-wife, assisting with birthing. She loved babies and the little ones. With many families, she kept in touch by sharing and trading pictures and gifts. Jeanne was a parishioner of the Huntington Baptist Church, and was a member of the church choir. She enjoyed entertaining, painting with acrylics, growing roses, baking knitting, crafts, country music, pets and spending time with family and friends.
Jeanne is survived by her children, Donald Godsoe, Deb Brookfield, Terri Thibault and her husband, Norman, George Walton Jr., and Lance Walton and his wife, Liz; grandchildren, Kris, Kerri, Shannan, Errin, Courtney, Tylor, Kazmin, Amanda, and Bailee; great-grandchildren, Ethan, Michael, Kyle, Makenna, Devin, Kinsley, Kaydn, and Sophia; great-great-grandchild, Skyler; sister, Claire Doherty; and extended family and friends. She was predeceased by her sisters, Rita White and Peg Grande.
Funeral services celebrating Jeanne's life will be held on Saturday, May 12, 2012, at 11 a.m. at the Huntington Baptist Church. Inurnment will follow in the Maplewood Cemetery in Huntington. Arrangements are with the LaVigne Funeral Home and Cremation Service, 132 Main St. in Winooski.
