Notes |
- Markuson - Jean (nee Sims). The family of Jean Markuson would like to announce that Mom has gone Home to start her next adventure with Dad. To reunite with beloved son Dean and infant grandson David. Mom left the Regina Pasqua Hospital Intensive Care Unit to have a final sleep in her own bed at home. She did not wake June 27, 2004 and departed this world in the company of daughters, son and grandchildren. The youngest child of George and Ellen (Banning) Sims she was born on the family farm in Strasbourg, Saskatchewan September 27, 1923. Predeceased by her parents, sister Marion and brother Buzzy. Jean's family moved to Nipawin when she was in school but the family home there burned. They moved to East Kootenay's BC to start over. Ever resourceful and hard working, she helped her dad on the XK Ranch when her brothers went to war. Before Buzzy left, he introduced her to a co-worker Ben (Al) Markuson who became her "Sunshine". They married at the ranch June 1945 and were inseparable lovers, friends and parents for 56 years. As the famiily grew and Ben's work progressed, they moved from Cranbrook to Hazelton, BC, to Yellowknife, NWT, to Prince Albert, SK, and finally to Regina in 1972. Mom tended to the family, including extended family members, nephew, niece and grandparents who share our home. When the older siblings left home, she became "Markie" to a host of little ones she provided with loving homecare. When Dad left for his next journey "scouting it out" Mom missed him more than we can know. Mom's legacy to the world is her family, her two sons, six daughters, twenty-two grandchildren, twenty great-grandchildren, and those new souls yet to be. Mom inspires us with her loyalty, devotion to family and friends. She taught us life skills and values to add to the quality of life. Left to celebrate her life and cherish her memory are Children: Lynn (Sheldon) Clarke, Les (Joan), Donna Portras, Faye (Bob) Wickens, Myrna (Roger) Bernier, Kim (Rick) Fabian, Shannon Leask. Grandchildren: Keith, Tady, Donovan, Jo, Jason, Tara, Ryan, Aaron, Jenn, Daniel, Randy, Greg, Terry, Kurtis, Kristine, Jolene, Scott, Chris, Colin, Kelly, Katie and respective spouses. Twenty great-grandchildren, her brother Mervyn Sims of Armstrong, BC, sisters-in-law Pat and Bonnie, nieces, nephews and many special friends. To commemorate the occasion a Memorial Service wil be held on Friday July 2, 2004 at 2:00pm in Wesley United Chuch, 3913 Hillsdale St., Regina, SK with Rev. John Haas officiating. Ashes to be interred in Cranbrook, BC in the fall.
