- Mrs Robert Giles
The funeral of the late Mrs. Robt. W. Giles was held on Tuesday afternoon, Jan. 13th, from the family residence, Malcolm Street, to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Services were conducted by Rev. H. C. Wolfraim, pastor of Bethany United Church, of which she was a member. Mrs. Giles was ill only a week and died in her 66th year on Sunday morning. Jan. 11th. The funeral was largely attended by relatives and friends. Two favorite hymns of deceased were sung: "What A Friend We Have In Jesus," and "Abide With Me." The pallbearers were, Thomas Barclay, Harvey Scott, James Edmonds, Ernest Adams, Delmer Johnson and Morris Turner, the first five neighbours of the family. Among the many floral tributes were pieces from Textile Union No ? 104; Weaving Dept., Rosamond Woolen Co. Ltd.. and the Car Dept. C.P.R., Smiths Falls. Among those who attended from a distance were friends from Ottawa, Smiths Falls, Carleton Place, Pakenham and Renfrew. The late Mrs. Giles was the former Jean Edith McArthur, a daughter of the late Stephen McArthur and his wife, Mary Turner of Ramsay Township. She was married to Robt. Giles on July 26th, 1904. He survives her together with five daughters and two sons, Namely, Mrs. Rae (Florence); Mrs. E. Baird (Laura); Mrs. Norman Sadler, (Jean); and Miss Mary of Almonte; Mrs. W. J. Carpenter (Eleanor), Smiths Falls; Ernest and Allan of Almonte. Twins, a son and daughter, predeceased her. There are also three sisters and two brothers ? Mrs. James Paterson (Jessie), Ramsay; Mrs. Reuben Giles (Bertha) and Miss Ethel of Blakeney; Archie and Stephen, Blakeney. Two sisters and one brother predeceased her, Mary, Elizabeth and John. There are 10 grandchildren. Mrs. Giles' greatest interest was in her home. She had a kindly disposition and her sudden passing will be regretted by all who knew her.
