- Brookfield: Norman Earl John, 66, died Wednesday, Feb. 2, 2011 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical center in Lebanon, N.H.
He was born November 28, 1944 in Concord, the son of Theodore and Luvia (Hodgdon) John.
He attended schools in the St. Johnsbury area. Following his education, he enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps and served two tours of duty in Vietnam. After his discharge from the service, he returned to Vermont, where he owned and operated a rubbish removal business in the Brookfield area for many years.
He was married Esther Hodgdon August 5, 1971. He enjoyed hunting, fishing and bowling and had served as president of the Randolph Friday Night Bowling League. He had also served as a Brookfield cemetery commissioner.
Survivors include his wife, Esther John of Brookfield; five sons: Leonard Hodgdon of Brookfield, William Hodgdon of Statesville, N.C., Berton Hodgdon of Concord, N.H., Max Hodgdon of Richmond, Va., and Michael Hodgdon of Philadelphia, Penna.; 10 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.
Graveside services with military honors will be held in the Brookfield Center Cemetery at a date and time to be announced later. There are no calling hours.
Arrangements are under the direction of the Day Funeral Home in Randolph.
