Notes |
- Mrs. Vesta W. Beckwith
The death of Mrs. Vesta W. Beckwith, 80, occurred on Thursday, Dec. 15, at Schuyler hospital. Although she had been a semi-invalid for several months, her last sickness was short.
Mrs. Beckwith was the eldest daughter of the late William and
Phebe LaMoreaux Wardner and was born on Oct. 10, 1875 on the farm east of North Hector, now Valois. Her younger years were spent on the farm. For the last 35 years she has lived in Valois. She united with the North Hector Baptist church 62 years ago. When health permitted, she had been a regular attendant at the Community church and the Ladies' Guild meetings. She was also a faithful member of North Hector Grange and was serving as its chaplain at the time of her death.
Mrs. Beckwith loved the church and its activities and the grange.
She will be greatly missed in all of these as well as in the community and in the home. A true Christian woman has gone to her reward, and will receive that welcome, "well done!"
She is survived by one sister, Mrs. Julia Case at home, two nephews, Sidney Van Vleet of Montour Falls, and Victor Van Vleet Sr. of Willard; and several cousins.
Funeral services were largely attended on Sunday afternoon from
the Valois Community church, conducted by the pastor, the Rev. Harry P. Dunlap. Interment was made in Seneca Union cemetery, Valois.
Bearers were six cousins, Lynn LaMoreaux, Elmo LaMoreaux, Delbert
Foote, James Hazlitt, Francis Foote and Francis Marsh. ?A.S
