- Mrs. Betty M. Nelson, age 89, died on Friday, (2/15/2013) at the Massena Memorial Hospital. She was currently a resident at the St. Regis Nursing Home in Massena.
She was born on April 20, 1923 in Potsdam, to the late Wallace and Jenny Files LaPointe. She was a 1941 graduate of Potsdam Central High School. On January 24, 1942 she was married to Donald Nelson in the Rectory at St. Mary's Church in Potsdam with Rev. Tierney celebrant. She worked for the rationing board during WWII. She then worked for Carey's Jewelry Store; Sullivan's Shoe Store; Montgomery Wards and was also a homemaker.
She was survived by a son, Donald "Tuffy" Nelson and his companion Cheryl Brunet; a brother, Wallace LaPointe; and five grandchildren, five great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her husband, Donald Nelson Sr.; a daughter, Melissa McKay; and a brother, Welby LaPointe.
