- Mrs. Albert N. Kier (Mollie Coppage) 81, died at her home in Unionville Tuesday following a long illness of paralysis and general infirmities of advancing age. She had resided in this community most of her married life of 55 years and had lived in Unionville for 24 years. Funeral services will be held at Spring Valley Presbyterian church Thursday with Rev. H.J. Rendall of this city officiating. Burial will be in Spring Valley cemetery in Ustick twp.
Mollie Ella Coppage was born near Falmouth, Kentucky on February 23, 1860. She was the daughter of George and Eleanor O'Farrell Coppage. She attended the country schools near Falmouth and moved with her parents to Fort Worth, Texas in 1878. There she attended the Smithfield Seminary and later acted as an instructor in that school for a short time. When she was 24 years old she visited her grandparents, Mr. & Mrs. Baldwin Coppage, at Latham, Kansas. She was married there on June 15, 1886.
Mr. & Mrs. Kier came to this community shortly after their marriage 55 years ago. They made their permanent home in Unionville in 1917 and have lived there since that time. In coming to Whiteside Co. from Kansas Mr. & Mrs. Kier with their oldest daughter, Pearl, made a 700 mile trip in a covered wagon. The trip took 1 month. They later made a similar trip to Texas where the Indians bothered them, but returned to Illinois by train.
Mr. & Mrs. Kier are parents of 3 children all of whom survive their mother. They are Clarence C. of Unionville, Paul. A. of Morrison, and Mrs. George (Pearl) Daehler of Chadwick; also survived by 2 granddaughters, Jane and Jacqueline Kier of Morrison; 1 grandson, Albert Daehler of Chadwick; 4 sisters, Cora Thackaberry and Sarah Terpeney of Fort Worth, Texas, Clara Lesh of Pasadena, Calif., and Eva Kier of Evanston. She was preceded in death by her parents. She was a member of the Methodist church in Argo Fa. -- from scrapbook clipping dated June 25, 1941 in Odell Library, Morrison, IL
