HARRY E. KIER
Funeral services were held Wednesday, July 8, for Harry Edward Kier of Florence a retired letter carrier and an army veteran of World War I.
He died Sunday in a Florence nursing home after two months serious illness, at the age of 74 years.
He was born Mar. 17, 1896 in Morrison, Ill., and had lived in Florence the past 50 years, coming here from Clinton, Ia.
He and Minnie Reese were married Jun 22, 1920 in Marshaltown, Ia. They observed their 50th wedding anniversary just recently.
Kier was a city route letter carrier in Florence for 35 years, retiring in 1951. He was a member of the Florence United Methodist church and Miller-Kitto Post N. 25, American Legion.
Services were held from the Florence Mortuary Chapel at 10 a.m., with Rev. Wesley Steinmetz officiating. Mrs. Dom Del Duca played appropriate organ selections including "The End of a Perfect Day."
Pallbearers were Sam Eldridge, Ed Westwater, Lester Peele, Glenn Smith, Jack McFall and Leonis Renfrow.
In addition to his widow, Minnie Reese Kier, he is survived by two daughters, Vivian Howell of Adak, Alaska and Mrs. Roberta Hill of Loveland, Colo., and one son, Hale V. Kier, of East Lake, Colo. Nine grandchildren and one great-grandchild also survive.
Burial was in Union Highland cemetery wit the American Legion color and honor guard, Fort Carson assisted with the firing squad and bugler for the military service.
