    Vivian Groves
    Vivian Groves
    Vivian Groves, 92 of Chappell, Nebraska died early Friday morning, December 10, 2010 at the Miller Memorial Care Center in Chappell.
    Funeral services will be held at 2:00 P.M., Tuesday, December 14, 2010 in the Chappell United Methodist Church with Pastor Ezekiel Koech officiating. Burial will follow in the Chappell Cemetery.
    Vivian was born on November 2, 1918 to William Howard and Elva E. (Sterns) Rice on a farm southeast of Chappell, Nebraska. She was raised on a farm north of Ovid, Colorado. She attended the Ovid public schools and was the salutatorian of the 1937 graduating class at Ovid High School. After high school, Vivian went to work as a librarian in the Ovid Library through the W.P.A.
    On November 22, 1938 she married John Kenneth Groves in Wray, Colorado. The couple lived in the Goodview area for five years. Then in 1943, they bought her father-in-law's farm where she and her husband raised their two daughters. In 2002 her husband passed away and in 2003 her oldest daughter passed away.
    Vivian was a member of the Chappell United Methodist Church for over 50 years, receiving her certificate in 2004 and was a member of the Luceba Chapter #220 of the Order of the Eastern Star for over 50 years receiving her pin in 2001. She also had been a member of the Social Hour Extension Club when she was younger. She loved to knit, make hooked rugs, read and do puzzles.
    Survivors include one daughter, Marcia Groves of Chappell, NE and several nieces and nephews.
    She was preceded in death by her parents, one brother William Clinton Rice, her husband, and one daughter Mary L. Groves
