- Beverly Mattler was born April 5, 1915 in Hoquiam. Her parents were Gladys (Smith) and L. Dodge Rolfe. She attended schools in Hoquiam and graduated with the Hoquiam High School Class of 1932.
She married John Mattler on March 13, 1937. He passed away in 1994.
She belonged to the Hoquiam Presbyterian Church her entire lifetime having been baptized in the church when she was three months old by the Rev. John W Beard. She taught Sunday school, sang in the church choir, had been a church elder and served as officer of several church organizations.
She was a past President of Emerson Grade School PTA, President of Grays Harbor Pro Musica and advisor to Jr. Pro Musica. She belonged to two ?Y? Circles of the Hoquiam YMCA, having served as President of one of the Circles. She was a secretary of the General ?Y?.
When her children were in school, she worked at several Hoquiam and Aberdeen stores including Johnson?s Juvenile, Deans Variety and Simons Hardware. Later she worked at Pay ?N Save Drugs as a bookkeeper and checker. She also worked at JC Penney. In 1966 she went to work for a Hoquiam Laundromat. She retired in 1976.
She and her husband enjoyed sports. They attended their grandchildren?s Little League and Babe Ruth games for 13 years. They followed their grandson?s Hoquiam High School and Grays Harbor College basketball games.
For several years at Christmas or Thanksgiving she rode an Amtrak to visit her daughter and grandchildren in California.
She belonged to the Hoquiam High School Alumni Association, Friends of the 7th Street Theater, Grays Harbor Community Concert Association, Hoquiam Eagles Auxiliary, and Hoquiam VFW Auxiliary. She was a volunteer for the American Red Cross Blood Drive.
Survivors include daughter Patricia Schroeder of Oakley, CA, son Robert and wife Nhan of Hoquiam, six grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
A private urn committal will be held at Sunset Memorial Park in Hoquiam.
