- Clara R. Sebring BRISTOL, Va. Clara R. Sebring, age 88, of Bristol, Va., formerly of Tecumseh, Mich., passed away Monday, Aug. 4, 2014, at her home, surrounded by her family. Clara was born March 12, 1926, in Holloway, Mich., to the late Raynor and Arlene Coller Kerr. She was raised in the Macon, Mich., area and graduated from the Edison Institute, established by Henry Ford. She later became a bookkeeper for the "Bug's and Harry's" service station in Tecumseh, where she met her husband-to-be, Mahlon Sebring. After her marriage to Mahlon on Feb. 16, 1946, following World War II, Clara became the bookkeeper for the Standard Oil service stations she and Mahlon operated in Tecumseh. In later years, she worked as the bookkeeper for Lenawee Fuels in Tecumseh. Clara enjoyed sewing and knitting, playing cards, working crossword puzzles, and baking incredibly delicious Lebkuchen cookies at Christmas time. She loved traveling, and entertaining visitors and guests at her home. Clara was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who took much delight in all family gatherings. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her sister, Opal Dickinson. She is survived by her loving husband of 68 years, Mahlon Sebring of Bristol, Va.; one daughter, Carolyn George and husband, Ronald, of Lansing, Mich.; two sons, Greg Sebring and wife, Diane of Tecumseh, and Eric Sebring and wife, Tracy, of Christiansburg, Va.; seven grandchildren; and nine great grandchildren. Memorial services will be held at a later date. Expressions of sympathy may be made by making donations to Wellmont Hospice, 280 Steeles Road, Bristol, TN 37620 or to the charity of the donor's choice. Cremation Society of Virginia is serving the Sebring family.
