Notes |
- Mary Louise Ridge, 84, of Baytown, passed away Easter Sunday, April 5, 2015 in Baytown. She was born June 26, 1930 in Houston to her late parents, William Alton Jones and Lila Epperson Jones.
Mother lived in the Baytown area most of her life, received a Bachelor's Degree from the University of Houston and her Master's Degree from Lamar University in Beaumont. She was a retired teacher from the Goose Creek Consolidated School District. She owned and taught one of the first kindergartens in Baytown, the Kotton Kandy Kindergarten. She taught until the kindergartens were opened in the public schools.
Mother was a member of Trinity Tabernacle Assembly of God for over 61 years, faithfully supporting the ministries of the church. She was active in Christian Education serving as the Director from 1968 to 1997. The Christian Education Department thrived under her leadership. Her desire was to tell as many people as she could about the love of Jesus and she spent her life doing this. She was a wonderful altar worker and prayer warrior.
She served on the Joy Fellowship steering committee which was a special time of ministry and fellowship for the ladies of the church and the community. Mother was a planner, an organizer and a decorator. She planned parties for all ages, programs, weddings, showers and family reunions. You could count on her having a part in whatever was going on. She had a gift of including people and making them feel a part. She had an enthusiasm that was contagious.
Mother loved life. She always had a great attitude and was willing to try anything at least once. If you were with her, you knew you would have a fun day. She was known as "Aunt Mary" to many.
In 1995, Mother was honored as the San Jacinto Section's Lay Leader of the Year for the South Texas District Council of the Assemblies of God, headquartered in Houston.
Mother's heart was tender toward the things of God and taught us that prayer and serving our Lord was the most important thing in life. She and our Dad walked hand in hand in raising us. Mother was a listener, counselor and advisor not just to her children but to everyone who needed her. We knew without a doubt that we were loved.
Mother not only loved her children but had such fun with the grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They have such wonderful memories of slumber parties and drinking their coffee milk in Mother's most precious china tea cups. She loved her grandchildren and great-grandchildren and considered them her heritage.
She and our Dad had a love for each other that is rarely seen today. Together they set an example of what true love is. We have been blessed to have been called, "her children."
Mother was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Charles William Ridge; brothers-in-law, Richard Lee Ridge and Joseph Clark Brewer.
Mother now waits in heaven, along with our Dad, for their children, Shelia Burns and husband, Jimmy Earl, Sherry Lefler and husband, David, Marilyn Starnes and husband Ray and Charles Russell "Rusty" Ridge and wife, Deborah;
She is also survived by grandchildren, John Britten Churchill and wife, Cynda, Janci Auby, Tish Mosley and husband, Greg and Brandi Burns; Jamie Pierce and husband, Col. Chip Pierce, Rev.
