- Ralph E. Avery, 95, of Freeman Township, passed away Tuesday, Jan. 12, 2016, at Franklin Memorial Hospital in Farmington, Maine.
He was born July 3, 1920, in New London, the son of Kenneth and Marion Avery. He was a World War II veteran serving as a Navy aviation metalsmith aboard three aircraft carriers during his service from 1940 to 1953. Ralph loved dancing and was a square dance club member in the 1960s and 1970s. He was a lifelong stamp collector, enjoyed music (particularly Bill Gaither gospel music), and was a talented builder and handyman.
Ralph is survived by his sons, Ralph R. Avery and Pasco B. Avery; three grandchildren, Josiah P. Avery, Jodi D. Hoffman and Jessica D. Matchett; two great-grandchildren, Albert and Nicholas Hoffman; and his sister, Beth Bernhardt.
He was predeceased by his brother, Kenneth Avery; and his sister, Betty Hewitt.
There will be no funeral services at this time. Interment will be in Connecticut.
Arrangements are under the care of Adams-McFarlane Funeral & Cremation Services, 108 Court St., Farmington, Maine.
