- Ruth A. (Wilson) McCauley, 83, of Nelson St., passed away peacefully in the presence of her loving family on Saturday, July 12, 2014 at UMass Memorial Healthcare, Lake Ave., Worcester. Born in Worcester and raised in Boylston, Ruth was the daughter of Raymond and Doris (Rondeau) Wilson and lived 64 years in Holden.
Ruth attended Commerce High School in Worcester. In 1949, she married the love of her life, Robert McCauley and together they built a home in Holden where they raised their four children. She enjoyed caring for others and in the 1970?s pursued a career in nursing. She graduated from David Hale Fanning School of Nursing and worked as an licensed practical nurse at Worcester City Hospital, Holden District Hospital and Memorial Hospital. She was a member of the First Baptist Church of Holden where she sang in the choir, taught Sunday school and served as a Deacon.
In her youth, Ruth enjoyed spending summers at her grandparent?s farm in Lincoln, Maine. She was a devote Christian and fondly remembered her trips to the Alton Christian Center in New Hampshire. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and friend and will be remembered for her gentle and kind nature.
Ruth?s husband of 64 years, Robert C. McCauley, died in November of last year. She is survived by her son, Kevin W. McCauley and his wife, Benita of Gilmanton, NH; three daughters, Carole McGrath and Bonnie Gannon both of Holden and Mary Jean ?Binky? Lemire and her husband, Honorable James R. Lemire of Paxton; a sister, Janet Dryden of Spencer; her grandchildren, Robert and Michael Lemire, Justin and Travis McCauley, Jesslyn Paquette and Sean Gannon; 7 great-grandchildren; and several nephews and nieces. She was predeceased by her brothers, Raymond Wilson and Capt. Albert Wilson.
In remembrance of Ruth?s life, a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on Saturday, July 19, at the First Baptist Church, 1216 Main St., Holden. Interment will be private at Pine Grove Cemetery in Boylston. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Baptist Church of Holden, 1216 Main St., Holden, MA 01520 or the MSPCA, 350 Huntington Ave., Boston, MA 02130. Funeral arrangements are under the care of Miles Funeral Home, 1158 Main St., Holden.
