- Avis (Cavagnaro) Varni, 75, of East Hartford, beloved wife of Stephen A. Varni, Sr., died Sunday (November 11, 2001) in Manchester Memorial Hospital.
Avis was born in Hartford on June 25, 1926, daughter of the late Alfred and Elizabeth (Banning) Cavagnaro, and was a resident of East Hartford most of her life. She was a member of Burnside United Methodist Church, East Hartford.
Besides her husband of 52 years, Avis is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Stephen Jr. and Darlene Varni of Stafford; a daughter and son-in-law, Debra and Steve Matthews of East Hartford; two grandsons, Steve Jr. and Christopher, both of East Hartford; a sister and brother-in-law, Marion and Leo Cordier of East Hartford; brother-in-law and sister-in-law, Robert and Betty Varni of Glastonbury; special friends, Donald "Buzz" and Vicki Brozowsky of East Hartford; several nieces and nephews.
A Liturgy of Christian Burial will be held in the chapel of Newkirk & Whitney Funeral Home, 318 Burnside Avenue, East Hartford, on Thursday morning at 10 a.m., with Pastor Joyce Whetstone of Burnside United Methodist Church, East Hartford, officiating. Relatives and friends respectfully invited to attend. Burial will follow in Hillside Cemetery, East Hartford.
