- Dorothy (Derby) Kahane, 87 of Springfield, MA, formerly of Elmwood, died Sunday (January 4, 2004) in Massachusetts. Born in Hartford June 10, 1916, daughter of George and Signe (Peterson) Derby, she was raised in Elmwood and had been a resident of Springfield since the early 1970's. Prior to retiring Dorothy had been employed at Mercy Hospital in Springfield. She is survived by a her daughter-in-law, Linda (Moore) Veitch and her husband James of Bristol; four grandchildren, Jennifer Veitch and Corey Veitch, both of Bristol, Adam Veitch of Groton and Michael Veitch of Bristol; two great-grandchildren. Dorothy was predeceased by her son, Peter R. Moore. A private burial will be in the Bolton Center Cemetery in Bolton. There are no callings hours. Memorial contributions may be made to Fidelco Guide Dog Foundation, P.O. Box 142, Bloomfield, CT 06002. The Holmes Funeral Home, Manchester has care of arrangements.
