- Former Village President Charles S. Raefle Was Highly Respected by All
New Hartford, July 14 ? The death of Charles Stewart Raefle, which occurred at his home on Hillside Avenue, has brought grief to many friends. Mr. Raefle was born in Brooklyn September 14, 1877, the only son of Hermann and Adelaide Stuart Raefle. Their summer home was at Trenton Fall and there Mr. Raefle became interested in electricity. He graduated from the Brooklyn school and then fitted himself for electric work and became assistant foreman of the Gas and Electric power plant of Trenton Falls, which position he held six years. While at Trenton Fall, Mr. Raefle had a serious accident which unfitted his for work for some time, but later he was employed by the J. & M. Company.
Mr. Raefle was united in marriage with Miss Edna L. Wood of Trenton Falls, January 2, 1907 and since that time had made his home in New Hartford. Mrs. Raefle and two daughters, Dorothy and Doris survive him. Mr. Raefle was a faithful member of the Presbyterian Church, a member of Amicable Lodge, F. & A. M., and if I. O. O. F. Lodge, of Barneveld. In politics Mr. Raefle was a Republican and in March 1920, though not seeking the office he was elected president of the village of New Hartford, which office he filled until being too ill to attend to its duties he resigned. The funeral will be private and he will be laid to rest in Evergreen cemetery, Barneveld.
