Florence E. ?Betty? Finney, 88 passed away July 6, 2015 at Home with her family at her side.
Betty was born October 25, 1926 in Homer, the daughter of the late William and Florence Connors Shanahan.
Betty was a communicant of St. Mary?s church, and had been employed as a nurse a Cortland Regional Medical Center.
Her memberships included the Cortland County Retired Nurse?s Association, the Prayer group at St. Mary?s Church.
Betty was a dedicated and loyal SU fan.
Betty is survived by her children Michael (Cathy) Finney of Tenn., Patrick Finney of Cortland, Mark Finney of Cortland, and Marilyn Finney of Cortland. Her grandchildren Shannon (Joey) Donnelly, Michelle Sparkman, Lauren (Richard) Hartman, Brad Finney, Nicholas (Liz) Nowalk, her great grandchildren Liz, Bo, Eva and Lea Donnelly, Brian , Anna Cate ,Mary Connor, Lyla James , Angelina Amezcuca, and Sydney Nowalk .
Betty is also survived by her sister Helen (Don) Broton of Syracuse, brother in law Rodney Knight, sister in law Barbara Shanahan, her adopted son Pearl (Debra) Washington, several nieces and nephews.
In addition to her parents Betty was predeceased by her husband John, brother William Shanahan, sisters Mary Kelley, Kathleen Corbett, brother in laws Bob Kelley, and John Corbett, and grandson Brian Finney.
A prayer service will be held 12:30 pm Thursday at the funeral home, followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 1:00 pm at St. Mary?s Roman Catholic Church in Cortland, with Fr. Joseph Zareski officiating. Interment will follow in St. Mary?s Cemetery.
Friends are invited to call from 4-7 pm Wednesday at the Wright-Beard Funeral Home 9 Lincoln Ave.
