Notes |
- Elizabeth (Betty) F. Cole, 97, formerly of Mildred Avenue died on Saturday at the Nottingham Skilled Care Facility. She is predeceased by her husbands Claude (Bill) Bailey and Kenneth Cole; a son, William G. Bailey and a niece, Virginia Popp. She was a member and former deacon of Eastwood Baptist Church, a member of the Miriam Circle and was active in their "Clown Ladies" group. She was a member of the Eastern Star, Onondaga Chapter #144 and the Daughters of the American Revolution, Comfort Tyler Chapter. Mrs. Cole was formerly employed by the city of Syracuse Department of Finance. She was an accomplished pianist and took pride in the fact that she had taught many young people the joys of playing the piano. Her love of children and her skill in knitting resulted in all the young people in her family and neighborhood being warmed by her hand-knitted sweaters, hats and mittens.
Survived by two granddaughters: Elizabeth (Scott Rose) Bailey of Anchorage Alaska and Carolyn "Lynn" Grapsas (nee Bailey) of Albuquerque, New Mexico; three great-grandsons: Christopher, Nicholas and David Grapsas of Albuquerque; one niece, Joan Erwin of Onondaga Hill; two nephews: Stewart Lee of East Syracuse and Bruce Finney of Camillus; several grandnieces, grandnephews, great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday at 11 a.m. in the Eastwood Baptist Church, 3212 James Street. Burial will be in White Chapel Cemetery in Dewitt. Calling hours are Tuesday 4 to 8 p.m. at the Goddard-Crandall-Shepardson Funeral Home, 3111 James Street.
Memorial contributions are to be made to the Eastwood Baptist Church Memorial Fund.
