- Gladys Marie Shockley Underwood, 90, died Tuesday, Aug. 5, 2014.
Celebration of life services will be at 11 a.m. Saturday in Cox Funeral Home Benton Chapel with Pastor Paul Higley officiating. Burial will be in Memorial Park Cemetery. Arrangements are by Cox Funeral Home, 4180 Canyon Drive.
Gladys was born Oct. 10, 1923, in Marietta, Okla., to Richard and Alice Shockley. She moved to Amarillo with her family, where she graduated from Amarillo High School in 1943. She attended school for horology in Aurora, Ill., then worked repairing watches for Zales, Cizon's Jewelry and Montgomery Wards.
Gladys married Emory R. Underwood on July 26, 1945, in Alameda, Calif. He preceded her in death on June 17, 1990. Together, they enjoyed dancing and traveling. She loved playing bingo and being outdoors. Most of all, she loved spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Emory; four sisters; and two brothers.
Survivors include a daughter, Vickie Majors of Hermitage, Tenn.; two sons, Richard and James Underwood, both of Amarillo; three sisters, Winnie Spears and husband A.C. and Cloe Walker, all of Amarillo, and Maye Fisher of Guadalajara, Mexico; 10 grandchildren; and 12 great-grandchildren.
Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. today at the funeral home.
