- Gerald O. Dahlke of Mystic, CT died January 21, 2014 at Avalon Health Center in Mystic, CT. Born in Milwaukee, Wisconsin on August 24, 1920 the son of the late Otto and Viola Leopold Dahlke, he was a Connecticut resident since 1954, living in Wethersfield prior to moving to Lyme in 1980 and Mystic in 2006. He is survived by his beloved wife and best friend, Daphne Harding Dahlke, by their children Diane Dahlke and her husband Dale Denno, of Cumberland, Maine, Chip Dahlke and his wife Carol Adams Dahlke of Ashlawn Farm, Lyme, Connecticut, and Tom Dahlke of Bath, Maine. In addition he leaves seven grandchildren, Jesse Denno, Evan Denno and his wife Kunsang Dolma, Gillian Dahlke and her fiancee Matt McNeil, Travis Dahlke, Alida Dahlke, Charlie Dahlke and James Dahlke. There are also two great grandchildren Tenny and Zoom Denno. He was predeceased by Tom's wife, Cynthia. During World War II, Jerry served as an Infantry Officer with the 10th Mountain Division in Texas and Italy. After his discharge in 1946 he married Daphne, a native of Lyme and previously in service with the U.S. Marines. He returned to Wisconsin with his bride, where he completed his education at the University of Wisconsin (Madison) receiving an MBA degree. He was a Certified Public Accountant in Appleton, Wisconsin as well as Hartford, CT and represented the Connecticut General Life Insurance Co. in sales for thirty five years. Since 1990 he was a partner with his son Chip as a financial consultant in Glastonbury until he retired in 2007.
There are no calling hours. Close friends and family will gather on Thursday, January 30, at 2:30 at the First Congregational Church of Lyme for a service and burial. In lieu of flowers, contributions in his memory may be made to the Connecticut Children's Medical Center Foundation, 12 Charter Oak Place, Hartford, CT 06106 or to an organization of the donor's choice. Fulton-Theroux Funeral Home, Old Lyme is handling the arrangements.
