- Jane Scarborough Lee, age 96, of Newark, DE, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 16, 2017.
Born in Wilmington, DE on May 27, 1920, Mrs. Lee was a daughter of the late William F. Scarborough and Blanche M. (Moore) Scarborough. A graduate of Oberlin College and Yale School of Music, Mrs. Lee taught at the college level before getting married and focusing on her role as wife and mother.
Mrs. Lee had a lifelong passion for the piano. While raising their three children, Mrs. Lee was involved with chamber music, served as an accompanist, and maintained a private studio in their home. In her leisure hours, Mrs. Lee enjoyed playing piano duets with her husband on her 1923 Steinway baby grand, and she played well into her 96th year. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who will be truly missed.
In addition to her parents, Mrs. Lee was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 67 years, Henry N. Lee, Jr. (Professor Emeritus, Music Department, University of Delaware) and her sister, Anne Hudock. She is survived by her sister, Mary Lou Beatman of Chester, VA; children, Jonathan S. Lee (Joan) of Spring, TX, Thomas C. Lee (Keri) of St. Louis, MO and Melinda "Mindy" L. Bowman (Peter) of West Chester, PA; grandchildren, Abigail, Richard, Jessica, Christopher, Jonathan and Andrew and great-grandchild, Connor.
A memorial service and interment will be held on May 26, 2017 at 11:00 o'clock at Head of Christiana Church, 1100 West Church Road, Newark, DE. Those who would like to share their memories with the family are welcome to visit between 10:00 and 11:00 at the church.
