- Ann Lackey Stanton of Tyler Ave., Groton, passed into the presence of her Lord at Fairview, Odd Fellows Home, on Thursday morning, Feb. 26, 2009.
Ann was born in Groton, on Dec. 14, 1925.
In February 1950, Ann became the first police woman in the City of Groton. Serving 33 years, her love of children shown in the compassion she had whenever and wherever she saw a need. She also served in many ways in her church, Groton Heights Baptist.
Ann is survived by her husband, William C. Stanton of Groton, formerly of Mystic; her aunts, Isabell Adams and Lucy Doyle; her stepchildren, Diane Cohen and her husband, Ken, and Gary Stanton and his wife, Lucy, and their children; as well as many caring cousins.
Ann was predeceased by her first husband, Lyle Lackey; her mother, Viola Doyle; her aunts, Dorothy Weinberg, Elsie Noyes, and Alice Teuton; and two uncles, Howard Doyle and Fred Doyle.
A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, March 21, at Groton Heights Baptist Church, 72 Broad St., Groton. Private interment was held in Starr Burying Ground, Groton.
Byles-Groton Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
