- Frederick James Doyle Sr., 79, of 91 Buddington Road, Groton, died Monday morning, Dec. 27, 2004, at Lawrence & Memorial Hospital in New London with his family by his side.
He was born in Groton on Oct. 5, 1925, the son of James J. and Lucy Phelps Doyle.
He married Jane Murray of Groton in August of 1948.
Mr. Doyle served in the Navy during World War II.
He was a carpenter in the engineering department at Pfizer in Groton retiring in 1983 after 32 years of service.
He attended Fitch Senior High School where he had been active in sports. He played in the Groton Fast Pitch Softball League in the 40's and had been a coach in the Poquonnock Bridge Little League.
In addition to his wife he is survived by two sons, Theodore W., of Groton, and Frederick J. Doyle Jr., of Colchester; three daughters, Elizabeth Walrath and Ruth Trombino, both of Westerly, and Jean Benoit, of Norwich; four sisters, Viola and Lucy Doyle, Dorothy Weinberg and Isabell Adams, all of Groton; 11grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
He was predeceased by a daughter, Susan Doyle, a brother, Howard Doyle, sisters, Elsie Noyce and Alice Teuton, and a grandson, Adam Trombino.
A graveside service will be Thursday afternoon at 2:30 in Starr Burying Ground, Lester Town Road, Groton.

Byles-Groton Memorial Home is in charge of arrangements.
