Notes |
- CUSHING - Maurice B. Young, 64, died following an extended illness, Thursday, April 2, 2009 at his home.
Born July 7, 1944 in Rockland, he was the son of Bernard and Gracie Proctor Young. Maurice was educated in Thomaston Schools.
As a young man Maurice completed his apprenticeship to become a pipe fitter and welder. This apprenticeship took him to Austin, Texas.
On July 8, 1970 he married Patricia L. Moreash in Shreveport, Louisiana. Throughout the years Maurice's job took the family to many different U.S. States. These moves fostered a love of traveling that Maurice continued throughout his life.
The family eventually settled in Cushing. His family remembers Maurice always felt his heart was in Maine. While in Cushing he continued to operate his long distance trucking company that he started while in Carolina. Maurice drove truck for nearly 20 years.
Maurice took great pleasure and pride in restoring antique automobiles. He was a member of "Mainly Street Rods" a local street car club that enjoyed gathering to show off their cars and cruise together.
He enjoyed playing the guitar and jamming with family and friends. Maurice also held his Master Gunsmith's License and often dabbled in repairing and restoring guns.
His family remembers he had a vast array of knowledge and found great enjoyment in learning new trades.
One of Maurice's greatest loves was spending time with his grandchildren. They were the love of his life.
Predeceased by his parents, and two sisters, Jean Chapman, and Joan Cox; Maurice is survived by his wife of 46 years Patricia Young of Cushing; his sons, Robert S. Young, Maurice D. Young and his partner, Theresa Lovejoy, all of Cushing; his daughter Shirley Allen and her husband, Roy of Rockland; grandsons, Joseph Ray of Sumter, South Carolina, Cole Allen, Connor Allen both of Rockland, Thomas Young of Cushing; brothers, Oram Young of Brunswick, Isaac Young of Cushing; and two sister, Vickie Young of Cushing and Claire Wallace and her husband Francis of Jonesboro.
