- Albert L. Hamler Jr., 73, of 226 Jefferson Ave., New London, died Oct. 24, 2005 in New London.
He was born Sept. 17, 1932 in New London, the son of the late Albert L. and Eunice Daniels Hamler Sr. He attended local schools and graduated from the former Buckley High School in 1950.
Mr. Hamler served in the U.S. Navy and was a veteran of the Korean conflict.
He married the former Virginia MacLean on Nov. 7, 1953 in New London First Baptist Church. Mrs. Hamler survives him.
He retired from Electric Boat as a senior planner after 21 years and prior to EB he worked for Prudential Insurance.
Mr. Hamler was a life member of the VFW Murphy Rathbun Post 189, serving as Vice Commander and the New London Lodge of Elks No. 360. He was a member of the American Legion John Colman Post 9, Military Order of the Cooties and the New London Polish Club.
Besides his beloved wife Virginia of 52 years of marriage, he is survived by their children and their spouses, Glenn and Celeste Hamler of New London, Dana and Thomas Goulart of Franklin, Mass., and Gregg and Cynthia Hamler of Waterford; two brothers, Paul Hamler of New London and Kenneth Hamler of Rhode Island; a sister, Barbara Kotecki of New London; and five grandchildren, Michael, Meredith, Hannah, Erik and Jordan.
He was predeceased by a sister, Viola Durkee.
The funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. at the Impellitteri-Malia Funeral Home, 84 Montauk Ave., New London. Interment with military honors will be in Cedar Grove Cemetery. His family will receive relatives and friends on Tuesday from 6 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
