Notes |
- Ron Lewis, 61, of Owego, N.Y., was sent off from home by his loving family to go on a fishing trip in Heaven early Saturday morning, October 13, 2007. He leaves behind his loving wife of 38 years, Betty Ann Lewis; his parents, Linden and Harriet Armstrong, Camden, N.Y.; his three children, Jason Lewis and Shana Stalker, Neil Lewis and Sarrah Sindoni, Keith and Crystal Lewis; his four grandchildren, Jeremy, Evan, Jillian and Rhyan Lewis; his mother-in-law, Elizabeth Richards; his brother-in-law, William Richards; and many loving aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his father, Alfred B. Lewis; infant sister, Debbie Lou Armstrong; and his father-in-law, Robert J. Richards. Ron was born in Rome, N.Y., on September 15, 1946. He graduated from Camden High School in 1954 and Simmons Institute of Funeral Service. Together with his wife, Ron owned and operated Richards Funeral Home in Owego for many years. He always strived to serve families with dignity and compassion and was a dedicated member of the community as a member of the Owego Kiwanis Club and the Zion Lutheran Church. A passionate sportsman and a lifetime member of the Tioga County Sportsman's Association, Ron won the competition for Tioga County All Around Sportsman, as well as many other titles for archery, trap and handgun competitive shooting leagues. For his dedication and love for the sports, he was an amazingly successful deer hunter and fisherman, sharing the heritage with his family throughout the years. From conquering the woods in Halsey Valley and Pennsylvania to his two matching "Blue Fin" charter boats on Lake Ontario and Venice, Fla., or to just simply drift the river channel with his sons and grandson out behind the house. With his "all out" way of approaching things, Ron lived for his family and was unconditionally devoted to them all. He will forever rest peacefully in God's tender loving care.
A Funeral Service will be held at his funeral home, Richards Funeral Home, Rte. 17c West, Owego, N.Y., on Tuesday, October 16, 2007, at 11:00 a.m., with Rev. Mark Osborn, friend, officiating. Burial will follow in Tioga Cemetery in the Richards family plot. Family and friends are invited to Richards Funeral Home on Monday, October 15, 2007, from 6:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m. A deep heartfelt thank you is given to Ron's special group of medical personnel, friends, and family who have helped him through his journey.
