- Robert Marion Touchstone passed from this life to the next Thursday, January 13, 2022. Robert was born October 12, 1946, to Jacob and Margaret Touchstone in Murfreesboro, TN. Robert lived in many different states during his early childhood due to his father's occupation, which was in the United States Air Force. In 1958, his dad retired from the Air Force and the family settled in Enid, OK. Robert graduated from Enid High School in 1964 where he excelled in Speech and Debate. Upon receiving a scholarship in Speech and Debate, he attended Northwestern State University in Alva, OK. During his freshman year, he met "the love of his life" Mary Beth Lambert. They were united in marriage on August 14, 1965. Upon graduation from college in 1968, Robert was offered a job teaching Speech and Debate in Bartlesville, OK. In 1983 he was honored as Bartlesville Teacher of the year and later as Washington County Teacher of the Year. Continuing his education, Robert received a Master's degree from Northeastern State University in Public School Administration. In 1988, the family moved to Norman, OK where Robert had been offered a position as an Assistant Principal at Whittier Middle School and later at Norman High School. After serving as Head Principal at Chickasha Jr. High School and Jarman Jr. High, Robert retired in 2000. In 2001, he became an educational consultant with "Aha." A company owned by Dr. Ruby Payne who wrote "A framework for Understanding Poverty." He traveled and made many presentations across the United States introducing teachers to Ruby Payne's philosophy and educational strategies. He retired a second time in 2006. Robert is survived by his wife, Mary, of 56 years, two children a son Clifton M. Touchstone and wife Amy of Norman, OK, a daughter Amber Balderrama and husband Beto of Oklahoma City, OK, and adopted daughter Tammie Reeder of Norman, OK. He was blessed with six grandchildren Grace, Cade, Luke, and Maren Touchstone; and Hannah and Sarah Balderrama. He treasured each grandchild. He loved being a "grandpa" and delighted in teaching the "How to do" of many things in life. He is also survived by two brothers, Jim and wife Nancy of San Mateo, CA, and Stephan and wife Marla of Abilene, TX, Brother-in-law Frank Lambert and wife Virginia of Hopeton, OK, Brother-in-law Ron Kassik of Scottsdale, AZ, Sister-in-law Joy Lambert of Plano, TX and many nieces and nephews. Robert had many hobbies and interests. He loved to hunt, fish, and camp. He refinished furniture, collected and restored antique fans, made jewelry, experimented with stained glass, and loved working with the metal lathe and mill. As a jack of all trades and a master of some, Robert loved to learn. In life, he always carried with him an enthusiasm for sharing stories and razzing a friend. He loved God's creation and believed in helping others, all while living a life of integrity. His great passion for learning, family, and friends has left an indelible impression on all those who knew him. Few people in this world have lived a life like that of Robert, positively impacting and touching so many. He was loved dearly, and he will be greatly missed by his family and friends. A Celebration of Life Memorial will be held Saturday, March 26, 2022, at 2:00 PM at the Oklahoma City Fraternal Order of Police (FOP) Lodge #123 (OKCPD), 1624 S. Agnew Ave, Oklahoma City, OK 73108. His family asks that if you would desire to do something in remembrance of Robert and feel led to make a donation, that it be to the Oklahoma City Police Department Honor Guard Unit (OKCPD) by mailing a donation to the OKC FOP Foundation and designating the donation to the OKCPD Honor Guard Unit, or to the Oklahoma Wildlife Conservation Foundation www.okwildlifefoundation.org as he valued and respected those who protected us and enjoyed all activities having to do with nature. In remembrance and honor of a man who loved to learn and had many hobbies, we say never stop learning and find a hobby, or in the true character of the man himself, be the person that anyone can come to with a question and never stop asking questions yourself.
