- Benjean M. Browning was born September 20, 1926 on the family farm near Bluff City, Kansas, the only child born to Lorenz and Louise (Brinkman) Burgmeier. Benjean attended Bluff City High School graduating in 1944. She furthered her education at Phillips University receiving a Bachelors Degree in Education. She taught school at Arlington, Bluff City, and Anthony Kansas.
On December 27, 1958, Benjean was united in marriage with Dwight M. Browning in Bluff City, Kansas. This union was blessed with two daughters, Tammie Jean and Beth Ann. They made their home on a farm southwest of Anthony before moving to Eagle School in 1969 and remodeling it to be their home. Benjean retired from teaching after she got married.
Benjean was a devout Christian and an active member of the First Baptist Church in Anthony, teaching Sunday School for many years, both children and adults. She was also a member of the Retired School Personnel. Benjean will be remembered for her continual hospitality to family, friends, and strangers, refreshing the hearts of those she met.
On November 20, 2019, Benjean passed away at the age of 93 years. She was preceded in death by her husband, Dwight on July 23, 1998 and her parents.
Benjean will be deeply missed by her daughters and sons-in-law, Tammie and Eric Zittel and Beth and Dennis Elliott; her grandchildren: Danny Elliott and wife, Nicole, Kathryn Zittel, Donny Elliott and wife, Audra, Karyn Zittel-Harless and husband, Jonathan, Kristyn Ruddiman and husband, Kyle, Becky McNett and husband, Jesse, Deacon Elliott and wife, Bree, and Eric Joshua Zittel; 13 great-grandchildren; other relatives and many friends.
Funeral service will be held 2:00 p.m. Saturday, November 23, 2019 at Prairie Rose Funeral Home in Anthony with Pastor Warren Stanton officiating. Burial will follow in Forest Park Cemetery, Anthony.
Visitation and Viewing will be held 9:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. Friday at Prairie Rose in Anthony.
Memorials in memory of Benjean may be made to the Anthony Community Care Center and may be sent in care of the funeral home.
