Notes |
- Ernest Raymond "Ernie" Drew, Jr., 91, formerly of Battle Creek died March 9, 2009, in Marietta, GA. He was born November 24, 1917, in Battle Creek, where he lived most of his life.
He spoke often of his hometown adventures there. He graduated from Battle Creek Central High School in 1938 and was a life member of the Lodge #12 F & A.M. Mr. Drew worked for Lawson Printers from his mid-teens until his retirement in 1982, at the age of 65. He attended Lakeview Baptist Church and enjoyed fellowship with many members of the congregation.
Mr. Drew enjoyed the time spent with family, hunting, fishing, and hiking in the woods. After retirement, Mr. Drew became an avid golfer and could always be counted on for a good joke! In 2003, Mr. Drew relocated to Marietta, GA to be close to his children and grandchildren. During the final years of his life, he appreciated the simpler things: a good hot cup of coffee and a plate of chicken wings.
He is survived by a son, Ernest R. (Kay) Drew, III of Marietta; daughter, Elaine Groeneveld of Grand Haven, MI; four grandchildren, nine great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Iris Hysell, mother of his children; second wife, Christine Imhausen; siblings, Lyle Drew, Maxine Champlin, Donna Hamp, and Grace Stone; grandson, Daryl Groeneveld, Jr.; and great-grandson, Adam Groeneveld.
The family will receive friends Sunday, March 15, 2009, from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm at the Farley-Estes & Dowdle Funeral Home. A private interment service will be held at Floral Lawn Memorial Gardens. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Lakeview Baptist Church. Personal messages for the family may be placed at www.farleyestesdowdle.com.
