Notes |
- James E. Abrams, age 89, passed away peacefuly at the Veteran's Home on January 6, 2013 shortly after being diagnosed with Alzheimer's disease. Jim was a United States Marine and a World War II Veteran. During the war, he served in the South Pacific and fought in the major battles from Guadalcanal to Okinawa. After the war, Jim returned to Michigan and married Anne Buwaj, and together they had six children. In 1985, he retired from Harlo Products where he had worked for 35 years. He also owned and operated a motor repair business, Abrams Outboard Service, for many years. Jim was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne; their oldest daughter, Rebecca; and his second wife, Marcella. He is survived by his five remaining children, Sue (Bill) Thompson, Judy Boyle, Kathy Kensil, Greg (Ellen) Abrams, and Terri (Scott) McIntyre; 13 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren, and numerous step-children and step grandchildren. According to his wishes, he was cremated and buried next to his beloved Anne in a private service at the St. Mary's Catholic cemetery in Marne. The family extends their gratefulness to the staff of the Alzheimer Unit of the Grand Rapids Veteran's Home for their excellent and loving care of Jim.
