Notes |
- Kathleen Hazelton, age 81, died on February 8, 2008, following a stroke. She joins her beloved husband of 56 years, Rex Hazelton, who died on October 28, 2007, and her only sibling, her brother James T. Wilkerson, who died on October 12, 2007. Kathleen was raised in the Poughkeepsie, Arkansas area and moved to Michigan during World War II, where she met and married her husband, Rex. The couple raised their children in Livonia, Michigan, where Kathy was a devoted mother, faithful wife, and active member of Trinity Baptist Church. In 1987, the couple moved to Raintree Lake in Lee's Summit, where Kathy made dear friends with whom she loved to talk and take long walks around the lake. She was a regular volunteer, including at the Lee's Summit Hospital, Meals on Wheels, and the Salvation Army. She was a member of Aldersgate United Methodist Church. Kathy was a model of consistency and kindness to all. Her Christian faith was an inspiration. She asked that the following quote from Billy Graham be included in her obituary: "Someday you will read or hear that Kathy Hazelton is dead. Don't you believe a word of it! I will just have changed my address. I will have gone into the presence of God." Kathy is survived by four children, Stephanie Hazelton of Kansas City, David Hazelton of Annandale, Virginia, Deborah Linskey of Creve Coeur, Missouri, and Richard Hazelton of Pinckney, Michigan. Rex and Kathy also have nine amazing grandchildren, Matthew and David (Stephanie's sons), Daniel, Peter, and Katie (David's children), Andrea (Debbie's daughter), and Zachary, Alex and Gracie (Rick's children). A memorial service will be held at 2 p.m. on Saturday, February 16, 2008, at Aldersgate United Methodist Church, 350 S.W. 150 Hwy., Lee's Summit, MO 64082; inurnment will follow at the Longview Cemetery. The family asks that, instead of flowers, donations be made to the Salvation Army or Aldersgate United Methodist Church.
