Notes |
- FRIEDMANN, Doris Mary (nee Ayerst) August 20, 1919 Thornton, Ontario - March 23, 2012 Oakville, Ontario
Doris was 92 years old. She died with some difficulty, but in the end peacefully, at home with family, listening to some of her favourite music.
Louis Armstrong - What A Wonderful World; That Lucky Old Sun Luciano Pavarotti - Santa Lucia Nana Mouskouri - 'Songs of the British Isles' - Danny Boy; An English Country Garden; Early One Morning ? Nana Mouskouri Christmas Album - a collection of the most hymn-like carols and lullabies.
Assured of their eternal love and thankfulness, and of her profound achievement in this world and her shining example of what it is to truly love and how to have fun, by her family: children John Friedmann, Patricia Caudle (1943-2007), Susan Fletcher, Mary Walsh, Kristine Friedmann; grandchildren Michael & John Caudle, Robert, Michael, Christopher & James Walsh, Marnie & Julie Fletcher; great-grandchildren Madeleine, Jack, Skylar, Rachel, Mitchell. Well-loved by her childrens' and grandchildrens' chosen ones: Sandra, John, Mr. Peter, Larry, Gary, Frank, Allison, Tracy, Stephanie, Holly Jo, Jessica; by her extended family, and by many many wonderful friends and kind helpers. All of us experienced her loving care, her gentle touch, her tender, brave and buoyant heart, subtle wisdom, pure spirit, extraordinary kindness and patience, radiant smile, and her highly individualized fun-loving ways. She cultivated: humility, graciousness, learning, compassion, honesty, hospitality, trees, plants, flowers and vegetable gardens, and her great love - nurturing babies and children. For years she regaled us with heavenly rustic soups, pies and jams. Always up for a game of cards, she was a shark, like her Daddy.
In 1999 she lost her lifelong sweetheart and husband Walter Clement Friedmann (1922-99). Also predeceased by all of her siblings: Melville Ayerst, John Ayerst, Margaret Holborn and Norma Crawford. Daughter of Francis Ayerst and 'dear Nanny' Henrietta Patterson. Dory was the youngest. Forever a natural beauty and a country girl, with a big softspot for horses, cows and dogs. She was drawn to 'the great outdoors', and had a deep appreciation of the beauty, bounty, and serenity of nature. She will be terribly missed and joyfully, delightfully, remembered.
- 'How'd you get to be so sweet?'
- 'I don't know.'
