- Earle Wayne "Peanuts" Smiley was born September 29, 1934, in Pine County, Minnesota.
He was the ninth child of John Walter and Pearl Virginia (McKee) Smiley.
He moved to Danbury with his parents as a young child. He grew up and went to school in the Danbury area. He left school after the eighth grade to help at home.
On August 29, 1977 he married Laura Lynn Young. To this union, two children were born. He lived and worked his entire life in the Danbury area, working construction as a heavy machine operator and later for the Town of Swiss as Road Boss. He retired in 1997.
Earl crossed over to celebrate his new life on the other side on July 27, 2003 at the Burnett Medical Center in Grantsburg, Wisconsin, having suffered a debilitating illness for several years.
Everyone knew him as "Peanuts". He liked to visit with people and he enjoyed his family,friends and Children. He would help whenever he was asked and always have a laugh and a joke or story to cheer people up. He was a good man, husband, father and friend. He was an active participant in the "Danbury Diamond Anniversary" Celebration preparations and also with the Danbury Ambulance Benefit "Pig Roasts" and "Beef Roasts". He helped build the Little Miss Danbury Float, and he was recognized as a good citizen in the community.
Here to Celebrate Earl's memory are his wife, Laura of Danbury; a son, David Wayne Smiley (and Sherri) of Danbury; a daughter, Tracy (and Fiance' Billy Hoover) of Danbury. Also surviving him are three Brothers, John Smiley, of Oregon; Douglas (and Bonita) Smiley and Robert (and Linda) Smiley, all of Danbury; three sisters, Nellie (and Bill ) Rosen of Sedalia, Kentucky; Ruth (and James ) Frizzell of Meadville Pennsylvania and Mary Davis, of Danbury; 32 nieces and nephews; great nieces and nephews, great-great nieces and nephews and many other relatives and friends.
Preceding Earl in death were his parents; three brothers, Herbert, during WWII in France, Carl, in 1991 and Willis "Toby", in 1995; and two sisters, Betty, in 2001, and Dorothy in 2002.
Earl's wishes were to be cremated and that no services be held.
