  • Notes
    • Graeme John Butcher, aged 3 years 3 months, son of Mr and Mrs F.R. Butcher, of Grassy, suffered death from asphyxia at his home on Wednesday last. The lad was found by his mother, shortly before 5 p.m., suspended by his clothes to a nail which was protruding from a garden gate. Mrs Butcher had been with her son a few minutes before, and looking for him found the lad in this position. He was immediately rushed to the Bush Nursing Centre, where Sister Lee unsuccessfully applied artificial respiration. Senr.-Const. J.F. Edwards was called, and conveyed the body to Currie.
An inquest was opened the next morning, before Mr E.A. Mackenzie, coroner, and after evidence of identification by Mr Butcher, was adjourned.
