- NAIRNE, John (Jack) Morley
December 15, 1926 - February 23, 2013
Jack passed away peacefully on Saturday, February 23, 2013 at the Rosedale Hospice in Calgary, AB at the age of 86 years. Jack is predeceased by his father Hugh (Toot), mother Nettie, brother Cameron, and sister Lorraine. He is survived by his sisters Jamie and Lois (Leo) and loving companion Jean Morrison. Jack is fondly remembered by his children Donna, Michael (April), and Linda (Darrell); grandchildren Jodie, Richard, Pamela, Janette, Andrea, Kathy, Jamie; great- grandchildren Courtneay, Keith, Kyle, Christopher, Ashley, Kaitlyn, Logan, Chase, Myles, Kennedy; and great-great-grandchild Jaylee. Jack was born in Manitou, Manitoba but resided in Calgary for the last 50 years. He served as a Private in World War II with the Winnipeg Rifles and in the Korean War as a Sergeant with the 2nd Battalion of the Princess Patricia's Canadian Light Infantry. He went on to a successful career as an electrician with IBEW Local 254 retiring in 1985. Jack enjoyed hockey, hunting, baseball, curling, boxing, and in later retirement, a challenging round of golf with some of his mates. He was always working on a crossword puzzle, and was a natural born story teller who could always be relied on for a timely joke or anecdote. Jack was an accomplished featherweight boxer in the Canadian Armed Forces where he earned the moniker "Punch" Nairne. He loved to dance and was a longtime member of the Richmond Revelers' Square Dance Club. Jack was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion No. 1 Branch. We wish also to express our appreciation to Doug and Linda Morrison and Joanne and Garry Heenan for their thoughtfulness, friendship and support to Jack over the years. A celebration of Jack's life will be held March 16, 2013 at The Royal Canadian Legion No. 1 Branch at 11:00 a.m. There will be no service as per his wishes. In lieu of flowers, memorial donation may be made directly to Rosedale Hospice.
