    • BYRNES - Donald Merle, August 17, 1911 - September 12, 2000, passed away at Jubilee Lodge, Eston, SK. Memorial service will be held Friday, September 12, at 2:00 p.m. at St. Andrew's United Church, Eston, Rev. Helen Mooney officiating. Don was born at Richlea, SK to Alex and Sarah Byrnes. On October 15, 1935 he married Margaret Ellis who predeceased him on May 8, 1998. Survived by son son, Merle (Norlaine); one daughter, Beverley Gesy (Cam); six grandchildren, Natalie Byrnes (Sylvain Arsenault), Pennalee Byrnes (Efrem Haile), Joanna Byrnes (Wayne Minchin), Margo Lucarelli (Gino), Camara Byrnes (Nick Monday), Colin Gesy; two great-grandchildren, Simon Arsenault-Byrnes, Alessia Lucarelli; a brother, Keith (Evie); and sister, Maybeth. Don was born on the family farm at Richlea. He farmed for many years and was active in many community organizations. He was keenly interested in sports, both as a participant and coach. He was inducted into the Saskatchewan Baseball Hall of Fame. He will be fondly remembered for his sportsmanship and extensive memory of all his friends and acquaintances. Memorial donations may be made to Eston Jubilee Lodge or Eston Recreation Complex. Arrangements were entrusted to the Eston-Snipe Lake Funeral Chapel.
