- Mary Jane Smith, 70, of Spokane, Wash., formerly of Clawson, died Friday, Jan. 28, 2000, at her home in Spokane. She was born May 14, 1929 in Alton, Ill.
Mrs. Smith earned her three year nursing degree from Mercy School of Nursing and worked at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital in Pontiac. She worked for the Clawson Senior Citizens and Gordon, Timmis and Associates in Royal Oak for 12 years before retiring to Spokane.
She was predeceased Jan. 29, 1966 by her husband, Joseph David Smith, whom she married May 26, 1951, at the National Shrine of the Little Flower in Royal Oak; parents, James H. and Gladys Hutchcraft Colvin, and siblings, Imogene Hartley, Gwen Honchell, and Trevor Nicholson.
She is survived by her children, Jill A. (Bernie) Gregorich of Madison Heights, Cynthia J. Smith of Spokane, Wash., Judie (Jerry) Marenger of Franklin, Janice (Chuck) Shahagian of Spokane, Wash., Joseph D. (Nancy) Smith; stepsons, John, Dennis and Jerry Pelker; 13 grandchildren, seven great-grandchildren, many nieces, nephews, dear friends and extended family.
A memorial mass is scheduled for 10 a.m. July 22, 2000 at Guardian Angels Church on 14 Mile Road in Clawson; burial, Holy Sepulchre Cemetery, Southfield; memorials to cancer research, Parkinsons disease research, and the Children's Leukemia Foundation.
