- Joseph E. Frey, Jr., 91, of Idaho Falls, passed away March 4, 2012, at Lincoln Court Retirement Center.
Joe was born June 18, 1920 in Vincennes, Indiana, to Joseph E. Frey and Gladys Heady Frey. He grew up in Windsor, Ontario, Canada, and attended schools there, graduating from Assumption College High School. He also attended Assumption College.
Joe was a B-17 bomber pilot and served as a First Lieutenant in the U. S. Army Air Force during World War II. He earned the following medals: four Bronze Stars; an Overseas Service Bar; an Air Medal; one American Defense Ribbon; one American Theater Ribbon and one Presidential Unit Citation. Joe flew 19 missions over Germany and flew those missions through heavy anti-aircraft artillery barrages.
On September 28, 1940, he married Catherine Beverly Murray in Windsor, Ontario, Canada. To this union was born two children, Judy and Joseph III. They lived in Detroit, Michigan, and Huntington Beach, California. After the death of Beverly, his wife of 65 years, Joe moved to Las Vegas, Nevada, with his daughter Judy and son-in-law Bill, and later moved to Idaho Falls.
Joe was a member of the Roman Catholic Church and also served as President of the Lions Club and Mile Square Golf Club. Joe enjoyed golf and was club champion at more than one golf club. He also enjoyed bowling, and oil painting.
Joseph is survived by his daughter, Judy Krasho and son-in-law William Krasho of Ammon, ID; his son, Joseph E. Frey III of Lake Forest, CA; four grandchildren: Tamara Keen of Wrightwood, California, Dale Burrer of Ammon, ID; Heather Frey, and Danielle Frey of California; two great grandchildren: Allie Keen and Jacob Keen, and niece, Donna Gilbreath, of San Bernardino, CA.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his wife, and his sister, Martine Allen.
Funeral Services will be held in Huntington Beach, California, at a later date and burial will be at the Good Shepherd Cemetery in Huntington Beach.
