Obituary & Death Notice |
 | Christine Darbonne Christine Stillwell Darbonne, born January 26, 1936 in Los Angeles, CA went to be with the Lord March 31, 2016 in Atascadero, CA. She is survived by her husband of almost 60 years, Charles Darbonne; sons Larry (wife Jean), Wayne (wife Robin) and Walter (wife Lois); and grandchildren Ken, Lindsay, Ryan, Adam, Kyle and Dave, and great-granddaughter Charlotte. Cris had a long and distinguished career in various administrative roles in the Atascadero Unified School District including working at Santa Rosa Road, Santa Margarita, Lewis Avenue and San Benito Elementary schools and Atascadero High School. Students and colleagues remember her love for kids and quickness to laugh that made learning fun. She was devoted to her family, supporting her children's activities including Cub Scouts and Boy Scouts, competitive swimming, and band. She also was instrumental in starting a nursery school in Atascadero when her children were young. She greatly enjoyed camping with the family at Huntington Lake in the summer and Yosemite in the winter. She delighted in caring for her beloved Papillion dogs Michelle and Celeste, and participating in therapy dog programs at senior communities and with the children's 'Reading with Rover' program. She also loved being a member of Atascadero Bible Church. Cris became a pilot and enjoyed flying their airplane over the California central coast and was Chairman of the San Luis Obispo chapter of the Ninety-Nines International Organization of Women Pilots club for several years. Her other hobbies included caring for and riding Stormy, her Morgan horse, and playing softball. Cris was an inspiration to countless people through her exuberant example, life and humor. In lieu of flowers, memorial gifts to Atascadero Bible Church would be greatly appreciated. A memorial service celebrating Cris’ life will be held at the Atascadero Bible Church on Tuesday, April 5th at 1:00pm. |
