    Gregory Callans
Gregory Allen Callans, age 66, of Elgin, IL, passed away on May 3, 2023. He was born October 28, 1956 in Elgin, IL to his loving parents, Gene and Dorothy (née Hobbs) Callans.
Gregory graduated from Elgin High School, Class of 1974; and went on to earn his Power Diesel Generator Mechanic certificate from Wyoming Tech in 1975. He joined the United States Army in 1975, serving his country for three years before being honorably discharged in 1978.
Gregory and his wife, Deborah, were married for 44 years, and raised three children together.
Gregory was stubborn, except when it came to his wife. He was very determined, a true fighter. He enjoyed classic cars, camping, bowling, and coaching Little League. A favorite memory is when he and his family made up a game many years ago that they call Hillbilly Bocce Ball. It involves beer cans, a telephone pole, and “the special chair,” and has become a beloved annual tradition.
Gregory was preceded in death by his father, Gene Callans. He is survived by his wife, Deborah Callans; children, Matthew (Lisa) Callans, Stephen Callans, and Antoinette (Eddie) Oros; mother, Dorothy (Ron) Kussman; brother, John (Cathy) Callans; grandchildren, Ethan Schau, Naomi Bonilla, Madison Callans, and Francesca Oros; aunt, Patricia Hobbs; cousins, Cindi (Scott) Rodman, Jeff (Xin Tu) Hobbs, and Richard (Tracy) Hobbs; and many nieces and nephews.
A memorial will be held from 1:30pm until funeral service with military honors at 2:00pm, Thursday, May 11, 2023 at Symonds-Madison Funeral Home, 305 Park Street, Elgin, IL 60120. Michael Murschel will be officiating.
    Interment will be private.
Final arrangements entrusted to Symonds-Madison Funeral Home.
