Robert Roy King was born on Feb 28, 1929 to parents Charles and Irene King (Bowser) in Melfort, Sk. Bob grew up on their farm four miles north of Carragana. He was the oldest son and shouldered much responsibility with his two older sisters (Verna and Jean) in daily farm life and family responsibility after his mother passed away much too soon at the age of 46 leaving behind 10 children, the youngest being 3 years of age (Marilyn).
Bob attended McQuarrie School and could fondly recount many stories of his time there.
On Oct 11, 1958 Robert Roy King married Meda Joyce Bracken from Codette, Sk.
They were soon the proud parents of identical twin girls names Fernendel (Fern) and Ferleen. A few years later came their boy, Ian Robert Charles. Bob loved his little family very much and they loved him.
Over the years Bob became a true jack-of-all-trades. He was honest and hardworking. He worked on a threshing crew for Mick Hobman. He farmed together many years with his father Charlie and his brother in law Mike Shyshka (Edna). He worked in Richardson's store in Nipawin. He drove gravel truck near Codette and worked in the bush near there several winters. He worked in Macleods here in Porcupine Plain as well as for the Co-op under Looi Bourgonje. He will also be remembered for the decades he spent as a school bus driver. Many of his passengers were of course the grandchildren of many of the neighbors he went to school with. His former passengers will no doubt remember that when asked if he would take them for ice cream he would comply and happily treat the whole busload of kids. Oh, and they would no doubt also remember that he had an almost inexhaustable supply of patience. Bob's heart though was in farming and he continued to do so up until a few short years ago.
Bob was one of Jehovah's Witnesses and as such enjoyed visiting people with the Good News of God's Kingdom. (Matt. 24:14, Matt 28:19, 20) He was very active and dedicated to his busy spiritual schedule which brought him much joy. He liked to visit downhearted or sick ones and try to make them feel better and leave them with an uplifting thought from the Bible. Bob loved people and he loved to visit. He always looked for the good in people, was non-judgemental and always strove to find a common ground. He liked people to feel at ease around him. He was a good sport and a mild man.
He loved living on his farm with his family 3 miles East of Porcupine Plain. He liked to be outdoors, working, tinkering, tidying things up or especially gardening. He enjoyed watching sports, especially curling and hockey. He liked watching western movies and his love of and knowledge of horses played a large part in this. He really enjoyed watching the chuckwagon and chariot races on the summer fair circuit and liked to cheer for the local outfits. Another highlight of his summer was being able to spend more time with his two grandsons Zachery and Nicolas (Dale and Ferleen). Bob also enjoyed spending time with his son-in-laws as well. He often spoke fondly of both Peter Smith (Fern) and Dale King (Ferleen). Recently he was very happy to attend his son Ian's wedding and was very proud to have Miranda as a new daughter along with Zackery, Ethan and Jenae as new grandchildren. As you can imagine, he was very much looking forward to spending time with and getting to know these new additions to his family.
Bob had a fantastic sense of humor and a sharp wit. He appreciated a good, clever joke and could always see the lighter side of a situation which his siblings can attest to. Bob was close to all of his family members and barely a day would go by without him mentioning at least one of them.
Bob will be remembered as a kind, humble, patient, selfless and easily contented man. (Prov. 10:22) He loved his whole family and especially his dear wife Meda, whom he just had the wonderful opportunity to celebrate their 57th Wedding Anniversary with, only one week before he fell ill.
Although Bob experienced various trials throughout his life he never spoke of regret, but rather lived a full life that was overflowing with love, laughter, spirituality and contentment. He looked forward to the day when he would see his lost loved ones again on a paradise earth. Now we have one more reason to do the same. Bob will be so very dearly missed, but that is just simply because he was so very dearly loved.
Bob was predeceased by his parents James Charles King and Leila Irene King (Bowser), sister Grace (Bell), sister Shirley (Andony).
Bob is survived by his wife Meda King, daughter Fernendel Smith (Peter), daughter Ferleen King (Dale, Zachery, Nicolas), son Ian King (Miranda, Zackery, Ethan, Jenae), sister Jean Plante, sister Verna Anderson, brother Ken King (Helen), brother Del King (Angie), sister Edna Shyshka (Mike), brother Glen King (Beryl), sister Marilyn Jenkins (Richard) as well as numerous nephews and nieces. |
