Death Notice: Bancroft Times Once again, death, the Grim Reaper has passed our way and removed from this life on the last of the early pioneers of this district in the person of John Munro, a resident of Turriff. Born at Hall's Mills, Lanark County on Sept 3, 1850, a son of the late John Munro and Marion McKay, who immigrated from Dornoch, Sutherlandshire during the Scottish Clearances, he was one of a family of seven all of whom have predeceased him. In the early summer of 1879 he came to Dunngannon Township where he located on what was then called the second concession. On February 24th, 1880, he married Mary Turriff, second daughter of John Turiff who was the first settler and for whom the settlement was later named. Mrs. Munro passed away nine years ago. One daughter Mrs. A.W. Munro died ten years ago, while another, Mary died in infancy. Six children survive. John of Detlor, Alex. Daniel and Mrs. W.J. McCaw of Bancroft, Peter and Mrs. H.L. Black of Turriff, with whom he has spent, on the homestead, the last six years. On Sunday morning, July 12th, he suffered a stroke, shortly after sinking into an unconscious condition, from which he never recovered, passing quietly away Wednesday afternoon. In religion, a life- long member of the Presbyterian faith, he was laid to rest in the cemetery at L'Amable beside his wife and daughter on Thursday afternoon. Mr. F. Wicks conducted the service at the home and church, while members of the Bancroft Masonic Lodge conducted a committal service.

Mrs. Jacob Price, Sr., of Galbraith, mention of whose sudden death was made last week, was born on Sept. 9th, 1851. Mrs. Price's death was caused by heart failure. She was seemingly in good health until within a few hours of her death. Her maiden name was Esther Munro, and she was a daughter of the late Mr. and Mrs. Hugh Munro of Darling. In 1873 she was married to Mr. Jacob Price, and to them fourteen children were born, two of whom died in infancy, and Hugh A., died in Feb. 1914, and Mrs. Wm. Lyons (Esther) in Aug 1905. Those who are still living are: Mrs. Sandy Rutherford (Margaret Jane), Unity, Sask.; Mrs. Edmond R. Lambe (Elizabeth C.), Shoal Lake, Man.; Mrs. Thomas Fife (Mary), McDonald's Corners, Ont.; Mrs. Milton McKay (Alice L.), Middleville, Ont.; Mrs. Alex Munro (Delilah), Hall's Mills, Ont.; Mrs. Ernest Foster, (Jeanie), Galbraith, Ont.; Messrs: Jacob and Ira Price, Sonningdale, Sask.; Mr. Thomas Price, on the old home at Galbraith; Miss Marion Price at home. Mrs. Price was a member of the W.M.S., and was always a faithful attendant when possible, and was always ready to lend a helping hand in any good cause. She will be missed in that as well as in many other ways.

Mrs David Clark
The passing of Mrs David Clark on Wednesday, January 28 will be noted with regret by a wide circle of friends and acquaintances throughout the district. She was in her 78th year. The deceased was Margaret Munro, a daughter of the late Mr and Mrs Hugh Munro and was born at Hall's Mills, coming to Almonte while quite a young girl. She was married to Mr David Clark and for over 50 years resided in the town of Almonte where, by her kindly disposition and many noble qualities she won for herself a very wide circle of friends. She is survived by her husband, 2 sons and 2 daughters all of whom were present at the funeral on Friday, January 30 to the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Mr Hugh Clark of Cardross, Sask., Mr Bert Clark of the Civil Service, Ottawa, Mrs Charlie Comba, of Toronto, Miss Hattie Clark of Edwards, Ontario together with the husband are left to mourn her loss. She also leaves five grandchildren and two great grandchildren. The late Mrs Clark had been in poor health for several years but was only confined to her bed during the last four weeks A life long member of Trinity Church, the funeral which was largely attended, was conducted by Rev A.J. Terrill, who paid tribute to the long and useful life of the departed. The pallbearers were her two sons, Hugh and Bert Clark; Mr Robert Kearney, a nephew; Robert Munro, a brother; Mr C Comba, a son-in-law and Mr Allan Comba, a grandson. Mrs Adam Johnson Passes Away In Her 98th Year.
One of Almonte's oldest residents, Mrs Mary Catherine Munro Johnson, passed away at the Almonte General Hospital early Sunday morning, August 2nd. Mrs Johnson had been a patient in the hospital for exactly one month when her death occurred. She was in her 98th year. Born in Lanark Township on January 5, 1872, she was a daughter of Daniel Munro and his wife Margaret McMunn. She was the last surviving of a family of twelve. She was married to Mr Adam Johnson on March 13, 1894, at Webbwood, Ontario, and resided at Massey for five years before coming to Almonte in 1900. For the first five years in Almonte they resided on the Harold Robertson farm on the outskirts of town, and in 1905 moved to the present home on Queen Street, Mr Johnson predeceased his wife in 1945, and a son, Dr Williard E. Johnson died at a early age in 1933. Mrs Johnson was a member of Almonte United Church, and a life member of the Women's Missionary Society. Surviving are three daughters, Gertrude (Mrs Wm Colborne) and Miss Margaret Johnson of Almonte, and Isabel (Mrs R.G. Whitelaw) of London, Ontario. The funeral service was held at the Comba Funeral Home, Church Street, on Tuesday, August 4th, at 2 p.m. and was conducted by Rev Morris of Almonte United Church. Burial was made at the Auld Kirk Cemetery. Pallbearers were John H. Munro, John Currie, Charles Rath and Edwin Halpenny.

Mrs John F. Gordon
Mrs Jno F. Gordon, a much esteemed resident of Ramsay township. passed peacefully away at her home on Tuesday, Dec 4th, at the age of 71 years. Her maiden name was Margaret Ann Evans, the eldest daughter of Wm Evans and Betsy Munro of Clayton. While quite young she became the wife of Adonijah Giles, who died in 1882. To them four children were born, Reuben of Blakeney; Robert W. of Almonte. Adonijah and Elizabeth A., Mrs Jacob Price of Sonningdale, Sask. The latter two predeceased her in 1916 and 1918 respectively. Some years later she married Jno F. Gordon, and this union was blessed with six children: Margaret, Mrs Tom Cavanagh, and Minnie, Mrs W.J. Elliott, of Sonningdale, Sask; William, 3rd line Ramsay; Eva, teacher in Crichton School, Ottawa; Findlay and Ada at home, All of these, with their father survive. The funeral service was conducted by Rev J.R. MacCrimmon of Bethany United Church, Almonte and was held on Thursday, Dev 6th, at 2 o'clock to the Auld Kirk cemetery. During the service Mrs J. Reilly and Mrs Clarence Kellough, by request, sang sweetly, "On Calvary's Brow." The pallbearers were Messrs George Robertson, Angus Sutherland, P.Y. Sutherland, John Turner, Will Giles and Herbert Coxford, The following floral tributes attest to the love deceased had won in hearts of neighbours and friends and expressed their sympathy: Gate Ajar, the family; Wreaths, Staff of Crichton Public School, Ottawa, Mrs N.J. Mrs. William H. Scott
The death occured early Sunday morning, August 6th, of a well-known resident of Almonte, Mrs. William H. Scott, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. Herbert Coxford. She was in her 81st. year.
Mrs Scott was born at Clayton, a daughter of the late William Evans and his wife Betsy Munro. Fifty-eight years ago she married William H. Scott, who predeceased here eight years ago. Mrs. Scott had resided in Almonte for over 40 years. In religion she was Presbyterian. Following her husbands death she resided with her daughter.
Of a family of eight, six survive, three daughters and three sons, Mrs. Herbert Coxford, Almonte; Mrs. Frank Snow, Fort William; Mrs George Vaniderstine, Moose Jaw; Harvey and James Scott, Almonte; and Alston of Melville, Saskatchewan. Three sisters and one brother also survive, Mrs. Geo. Pretty, Darling; Mrs Ida Prescott, Smiths Falls; Mrs Mort Young, Regina, Sask, and Abraham Evans of Clayton.
The funeral was held Tuesday afternoon from the home of Mr. and Mrs. H. Coxford. The pallbearers were Roy Robertson, Harold Prescott, Roy Evans, Ernest Robertson, Findlay Gordon and Wm. Pretty. Interment was in the Auld Kirk cemetery.
