    Erwin Wayne Pennock, age 92 of Chippewa Lake and formerly of Battle Creek, died Wednesday, June 29, 2011 at the home of his long time companion Patricia Morrett. Mr. Pennock was born December 4, 1918 in Ross Township to Tracey and Emma (Langs) Pennock. He married Lena Carrie Page on June 8, 1938. They made their home in Battle Creek before moving to Chippewa Lake in 1976. Erwin served in the U.S. Army during World War II in the European Theater. He was awarded the European African Middle Eastern Ribbon with 3 Bronze Service Stars and the World War II Victory Medal. After the war he was employed by Eaton's Manufacturing Company for 36 years as a Tool and Die Maker. He was a member of the Holiday Rambler Traveler's Club and a lifelong member of the National Rifle Association. He loved hunting, boating and was a craftsman in the art of welding. His wife Lena died in 1993 after 55 years of marriage. The last fifteen years of his life has been spent with his devoted and loving companion Patricia Morrett. He was a kind and devoted husband, father, grandpa and great-grandpa who will be missed. He is survived by his son, Gordon and his wife JoAnn (Langs) Pennock, his daughter, Carolyn (Pennock) Abbott and her husband Mark. He has 5 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren. Erwin was preceded in death by his wife Lena, his parents Tracey and Emma, his sister Ida Mae (Pennock) Stoddard and his brother Maurice. Cremation has taken place. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, July 30th at the home of Pat Morrett, 10625 N. Lake Dr. on Chippewa Lake with Dr. Rev. Robert Braman officiating. Interment will follow the service at Chippewa Lake Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Heartland Hospice Memorial Fund or to the American Cancer Society.

    Richard, age 91, passed away, Tuesday, February 16, 2010. He was born in Battle Creek, Michigan, August 8, 1918, the son of Louis and Gladys Boos. Richard graduated from Marshall High School and General Motors Institute now known as Kettering Institute, Flint, MI. He retired from the Oldsmobile Division of GM as supervisor of manufacturing engineering. He served in the U.S. Navy during WWII.
    Preceded in death by his parents and his brother Louis, he is survived by his wife, Anna, lovingly sharing 67 years of marriage. He also leaves behind many loving friends.
    A memorial service will be held at 11:00 AM on Tuesday, February 23, 2010 at St. Luke Lutheran Church, 5589 Van Atta, Haslett, MI. The family will receive friends 1 hour prior to the service at the church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Luke Lutheran Church, or Marco Lutheran Church, 525 N. Collier Blvd., Marco Island, FL 34145 or the charity of your choice. The family is being served by Gorsline Runciman Funeral Homes, East Lansing.

    Arlis Eleanor Mellor, 86, of Columbiana, OH, died at 6 p.m. on Monday, May 28th, at the home of her son, John Mellor, with whom she resided. She was born September 6, 1925 in Battle Creek, MI, the daughter of Basil Wesley and Nellie (Corteway) Pennock. She graduated from Battle Creek High School in 1943 and in 1948 graduated as a nurse cadet from Battle Creek's Community Hospital School of Nursing She married Stanley J Mellor on August 7, 1948 and they had five children. Stanley died March 3, 1989 in Akron, OH. She was a member of the Alpha Phi Beta Sorority and volunteered at Barberton Hospital in Ohio. She is survived by her children, David (Sucile) of Williamsburg, MI; Dean of Los Angeles, CA; Andrea (Larry) Mellor-Frey of Hamilton, OH; Joel (Sue) of Akron, OH; and John (Michele) of Columbiana, OH. Also surviving are her sisters, Barbara Harness of Jackson, MI, and Judy (Tom) Williams of Battle Creek, and 7 grandchildren and 9 great-grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her brother, John Lee (Vivian) Pennock and her grandson, Staff Sgt. Christopher Frey. The family has entrusted the Seederly-Mong & Beck Funeral Home in Columbiana with the arrangements. Services will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of the Valley, 5190 Market St., Boardman, OH 44512. Also surviving are sisters, Barbara Harness of Jackson, MI, Arlis Mellor and Julia (Tom) Williams of Battle Creek; daughters, Carolyn Pennock of Pomona, CA and Janine Pennock of Granada, CA; brother-in-law John (wife Sandra) Presley and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his parents. John received his Electrical Engineering Degree from Michigan Technological University and served in the Army at the Marshall Space Center in Huntsville, AL. He retired from Rocketdyne after 35 years, serving them in Alabama, White Sands Proving Grounds, NM and Canoga Park, CA. Funeral service and interment will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park, Hollywood Hills on Tuesday February 3, 2004 at 12:30 p.m. Visitation on Monday 5:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. Those wishing to make a contribution in his memory, may do so to the USC Norris Cancer Center, 1441 Eastlake Avenue, Room 8302, Los Angeles, CA 90089.
