    Robert H. Thompson, 80, Route # 4, Martville, NY., died Thursday morning March 3, 1988 at his home after a long illness. Born in the Town of Sterling, the son of Fred & Mary Bentley Thompson and was a life resident of the Victory & Martville area. Mr Thompson was a graduate of the old Cato High School in 1924 and the Hannibal Training Class, teaching for several years.
    Mr Thompson was a diary farmer and saw mill operator for many years. He was later a car salesman and a truck driver for Birdseye Company in Fulton. He and his wife, the former Sylvia Bruder celebrated their 60th wedding anniversary, February 18, 1988.
    Surviving besides his wife, is a son, Robert F. Thompson of Elmira; 3 daughters, Mrs William (Marilyn) Kwitunen of Rochester, Mrs Janet Bonanno of Fulton, Mrs Ronald (Carole) Sollars of Baldwinsville; a daughter-in-law, Mrs Clara Mae Thompson of Martville; a sister, Mrs Averil Lankford of King of Purcia, PA.; 16 grandchildren; 15 great grandchildren; and several nieces and nephews.
    He was predeceased by a son, Charles Thompson who died in 1979. Funeral services for Mr Thompson will be at 2:00 p.m. Saturday March 5, 1988 at the Jewell Funeral Home, South Street, Cato, with the Rev John W McIntyre officiating. Spring burial will be in Martville Cemetery. Relatives and Friends are invited to call from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday (today) at the funeral home.
    Those wishing are asked to make contributions in memory of Bob to the Hannibal Fire Department Ambulance Fund.

    Gerald (Gerry) Thompson Butts, 89, of Swansboro died peacefully on Monday, May 19, 2014, at the N.C. State Veterans Home in Kinston, N.C.
    Gerry grew up in Central N.Y. in the small township of Victory. While serving in the U.S. Army Air Corps during WWII, he earned the American Campaign Medal, Good Conduct Medal and World War II Victory Medal. After his honorable discharge, he returned home to design, build and operate "Butts Tree Movers" with his father, Jean G. Butts. It was the premier large tree moving business in the Eastern U.S.
    Gerry met and married Shirley Hulbirt in 1947 and they resided in Victory, N.Y. He was a member of the Victory Volunteer Fire Department for nearly 40 years and their Fire Chief for many of those years. He was also very active in the nearby Cato Rotary Club.
    After retiring and much traveling, Gerry and Shirley moved to Swansboro, N.C. in 1982. However, retirement was short lived as Gerry, at age 65, became a N.C. licensed EMT and volunteered hundreds of hours with the Swansboro EMS/Rescue Squad and Fire Department. He held the position of Chief and was recognized numerous times as Member of the Year in both organizations. He was the Fire Prevention Officer for the fire department for many years, teaching children how to be safe. Gerry was also an active member of the American Legion and Swansboro Methodist Men. His loving wife. Shirley. passed in 1996.
    He is survived by his son and daughter-in-law, George and Linda Butts; daughter and son-in-law, Helen and Franklin Cizerle; 5 grandchildren, Jonathan Benne, Kathleen Bremer, Charise Nichols, Kirk Cizerle and Kim Cizerle; 9 great-grandchildren, Jacob, Ryan, Ella, Cydney, Emerson, Jaxon, Ava, Carter and Eli; and his companion of many years, Evelyn P. Willis.
    A celebration of life, officiated by Dr. Ed Gunter and Mr. Doug Johndrow, will be held 2 p.m. Saturday, May 31, 2014, at Swansboro United Methodist Church. Expressions of sympathy may be mailed to the Butts family at 303 River Reach Court, Swansboro, N.C. 28584.

    Born in Martville, she was a graduate of the former Oswego State Teachers College. She retired in 1980 after 20 years as an elementary school teacher in the Hannibal Central School District. She was a member of Hannibal United Methodist Church, a member and past matron of the Order of the Eastern Star, Hannibal, and a member of the Hannibal Historical Society and the Alumni Association of Hannibal Schools.
    Her husband, Leonard, died in 1979.
    Survivors: Two sons, Leonard C. of Melbourne, Fla., and Jeffrey M. of Ithaca; two brothers, Charles Burgdorf of Fair Haven and Chauncey Burgdorf of Hannibal.

    Charles H. Burgdorf, 89, of Fair Haven, NY and Brooksville, FL, passed away Saturday, February 15, 2014 at St. Luke Health Services in Oswego. Born in Auburn, he graduated from Hannibal High School and lived most of his life in Fair Haven. Charles was a car dealer and salesman for decades. He was always ready to "talk to anyone" and could make conversation with anybody at any time. He was a member of the Hannibal Lodge #550 F.&A.M. and the Sterling Senior Citizens. He was predeceased by his first wife, Margaret Burgdorf, who passed away in 1989; his second wife, Elizabeth McGlen, who passed away in 2012; a son, Timothy and his sister, Jane Earle. Charles is survived by his son, Michael Burgdorf of Dallas, Texas; brother, Chauncey Burgdorf of Hannibal and four grandchildren. A private burial and graveside service at Martville Cemetery will be held at a later time. There are no calling hours. Contributions in memory of Charles may be made to a SOFA P.O.     Mary Louise Reed passed away peacefully on June 17th, 2014 in Scottsdale, with loving family by her side. Mary Lou was born March 1st, 1928, to John and Eleanor Thompson in Hannibal, NY, a small farming community in Oswego County. One of six siblings, her education began in a one-room schoolhouse taught by her two aunts. Mary Lou was an exceptional student and became a Quiz Kid panelist in the mid 40's. Also a versatile music talent, she played the drums, piano, and violin, and was awarded a music scholarship to college but couldn't pursue it due to family responsibilities. Mary Lou moved to Phoenix in the late 40's where she met Carl Herron while teaching ballroom lessons at the Arthur Murray Dance Studio. They soon married and moved to St. Louis, MO, where they had the first of their six children. Later relocated to Kansas City, KS, Mary Lou taught weekly ballroom classes in their basement, joined the Kansas City Young Matrons, became involved in community theatre, and devotedly raised her army of children. She graciously opened her doors to all the children in the neighborhood and had the best "dress up" trunk around. Widowed in 1962, Mary Lou remarried to Tommy Reed, moved to Phoenix, AZ, and soon had daughter, Aimee. Mary Lou eventually joined Tommy at Southwest Booking Agency as Vice President, booking orchestras, bands, and renowned musical talent for conferences, parties, balls, and conventions throughout Phoenix and the Southwest. She was also very involved with Friends of the Foundation for Blind Children and Stage Belles for many years. Besides her children and grandchildren, her passions were golf, crossword puzzles, reading, politics, music, and bridge receiving the Life Master Certificate from the American Contract Bridge League for which she was so very proud. Mary Lou lived her life with grace, dignity, and style, and we will forever remember her with the stunning inner and outer beauty she possessed. She is survived by her sister, Marjorie Cole; brother David Thompson; son Carl Reed; daughters Carla Silva, Lisa Petello, Shanna Reed O'Hara, Molly Berry, Aimee McWilliams, and 14 beloved grandchildren. She was preceded in death by her beautiful daughter Mari Lou Shulkin; brothers Gordon and John Thompson; sister Joan Markley, and husbands Carl Herron and Tommy Reed. A memorial service will be held Saturday, June 28th, 2014 at 2 pm, at Whitney & Murphy Funeral Home, 4800 E. Indian School Road, Phoenix, AZ 85018.     A Mass of Christian Burial will be 9:30 a.m. Saturday at Holy Trinity Catholic Church, corner of Rochester and South Third streets, Fulton.
    Burial will be in St. Mary?s Cemetery, Fulton.
